Notts Wolds Way – launch

by

bookWe recently received an invite to attend the launch of the Notts Wolds Way. The route of 26 miles was created by our affiliates over the border, Nottinghamshire Footpaths Preservation Society. It winds it’s way around south Notts taking in the appropriate villages of Willoughby, Clipston, Normanton and Stanton (all names ending…..on the Wolds). The launch took place at the start point in Bunny Village Hall with coffee, cakes and two special launch cakes.NWW-cake Just short of 60 folk then set out to walk the first section of 6 miles to Willoughby, yes ….on the Wolds. The weather was hot and dry so occasional shade alongside woods or behind hedges was welcome along with the coffee stop at Wysall church.

The official launch was carried out on behalf of Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust who had sponsored the project. Also present was Jane Baines from Nottinghamshire County Council who support the route which is easy to follow with distinctive waymark arrows, in both directions. NWW-pathA copy of the twenty page guide book was presented to all those present see website www.nottsfps.org.uk  for details of how to obtain a copy.

Jeremy Lewis from the Nottingham Post (rubbish website) joined the launch and walk and wrote an excellent two page promotional article in the Wednesday edition of the paper along with a half page of comment on the joys and benefits of walking.

An excellent event which gave the Notts Wolds Way a good start in life. It’s not far from our walking patch so give it a go.
