Astley Castle walk 28th June, 2014

by

Saturday walkers enjoyed a day walk in the Warwickshire countryside. The sky was overcast with wet underfoot conditions but fortunately we escaped rain. Leaving Ansley village, we arrived at the Castle by 11.00am.  The Landmark Trust acquired the property and from 2008 started repairing it and is now available to rent for a holiday. Free entry to the Castle allowed us to inspect the renovation and found the work completed to be of a high standard. The Castle sleeps up to eight people.

The walk then continued to Old Arley village where lunch was taken at St. Wilfrid’s church.  The barn adjacent to the church was open for refreshments.  The walk continued through Old Arley wood and thereafter through arable fields with crossing points marked by kissing gates.  Certain sections of the walk were very overgrown with vegetation.
