Obstructions removed at Croxton Park

by

The post from 9th December 2012 encouraged everyone to report problems found on the network. The follow is an update on actions.

Just a quick update on a few defect reports you put in at the start of the year regarding footpath between Branston and Croxton Kerrial. You’ll be pleased to hear that the path is now largely back in good order following works by the landowners and our own workforce (see map and photos attached).

Improved Plank Bridge

Improved Plank Bridge

The uneven footbridge has been reset (long term I may look to extend the bridge but first it needs the legal anomaly over the line sorting), the stile steps replaced and the dangerous protrusion from the gatepost removed where the path crosses the valley below Croxton Park. At the Branston end the sheep netting obstruction has been taken back to run parallel to the path rather than across it and the two offending low electric fences have been buried and insulated.

Further up towards Branston (The Rock) where there was a drainage issue the ditch has been re-piped and stone dropped in. The path up the slope towards the garden has been cleared of the worst of the muck but as horses are being kept there I’m unsure that this will last long? Anyway the whole path is a lot better than it was. It’s not particularly pretty but it does at least do the job and will settle and blend over time.

There are still a couple of issues to sort out including the broken kissing gate frame on Windmill Hill and the possible bypass bridge for pedestrians on the bridleway where it fords the brook to the North East of the village. They will be adressed shortly.

I will keep you updated on other defects as and when they are available and when I get a chance.

Enjoy the spring sunshine and your walking.
