Saturday walkers had a flashback to pre-decimal days when the notice in the picture was observed on the footpath from Old Ingarsby to Keyham.

“Any person who omits to shut and fasten this gate is liable to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings.”

I think this may have been an old railway notice. (Yes it is and it could be worth £90.00 that’s a touch more than the penalty it threatened Ed.)
